Solaria Regulation: New regulations for VictoriaIn line with developments at the national level for uniform regulations of the solaria industry, and the recent release of the updated Australian Standard AS/NZS 2635:2008 Solaria for cosmetic purposes, the existing regulatory requirements in Victoria will be strengthened with new regulations which were made on 16 December 2008. The Radiation Amendment (Tanning Units and Fees) Regulations 2008 will come into effect on 1 February 2009. These regulations were made via the Radiation Act 2005, an Act specifically designed to protect the health and safety of persons and the environment from radiation. The regulations are available at www.legislation.vic.gov.au. Select the Victorian Law Today option and search for the regulations by the title. A copy of the regulations is provided below:
Regulatory Impact StatementA Regulatory Impact Statement was developed to analyse the costs and benefits associated with these regulations. The RIS was released for a 28 day public consultation period during late 2008. A copy of the RIS is provided below:The Victorian Competition and Efficiency Commission (VCEC) assessed the RIS as adequate under the requirements of the Subordinate Legislation Act 1994.
