Protecting the privacy of personal informationThe Department of Human Services (the department) is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information and compliance with information privacy legislation.
 
The Information Privacy Act 2000 and the Health Records Act 2001 regulate the information handling of personal and health information. They includes standards for information collection, use, disclosure and protection of personal and health information.

The privacy unit within the department provides advice, training and tools to support privacy compliance and promotes best practice within the department.
