Public Tenant Employment Program

The Public Tenant Employment Program (PTEP) assists public housing tenants to develop skills through education and training with a focus on improving employment potential.

Training courses

A Certificate Course can run from 2 months to 3 years, depending on the type of qualification and whether it’s full time or part time.

PTEP will also assist you to move into work at the completion of your course.

Current training courses include:

  • Certificate 2 Hospitality (kitchen hand/waiter)
  • Certificate 2 Building trades (pre-apprenticeship)
  • Certificate 3 Security (security/crowd control)
  • Certificate 3 Children’s Services (child care)
  • Certificate 3 Aged Care (personal carer in aged care facility)
  • Certificate 3 Home and Community Care (home based carer)
  • Certificate 4 Disability Support Services (carer for people with disabilities)
  • Certificate 4 Community Welfare (child protection worker, community worker)

To access PTEP funding for any of the above courses you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Live in Public Housing or Transitional Housing
  • Hold a concession or health care card 

Job vacancies

Employers and contractors who provide services to the Department of Human Services, Division of Housing and Community Building lodge job vacancies with PTEP. These vacancies cover a wide range of jobs including:

  • office work
  • labouring
  • cleaning
  • garden maintenance
  • security guard work

The vacancies are circulated via email to tenant groups, community groups, Job Network agencies and Disability Employment Network agencies.
