Moving, buying, transferring in public housing
After becoming a public housing tenant your circumstances may change, which means your housing needs may also change. If this happens there are a number of options available to assist you in finding more appropriate housing.
Moving
If you are moving out of your public housing home you need to be aware of your obligations.
Transferring
If your household situation changes and your home isn't suitable any more, you can apply to be transferred to another home.
Swapping
The mutual swapping service allows public housing tenants to swap properties with one another. The service may help you to move home without having to wait for a property through the normal application process.
Buying
The tenant house sales program gives public housing tenants the opportunity to purchase the property that they rent.
- Moving out of public housing
If you want to move out of your home, you must advise your Housing Services officer in writing, explaining when you'll be leaving.
- Transferring to new public housing
You can apply to transfer to another home by completing the Public Housing Application form.
- Swapping with another public housing tenant
If you want to move house, you might be able to swap with another public housing tenant.

The tenant house sales program give public housing tenants an opportunity to purchase the property that they rent.
