The department provides public and community housing and support for low income Victorians, targeted to those most in need.
If you are looking for longer term accommodation, you can apply for public housing. Public housing provides shelter and security especially for people who have recently experienced homelessness, need support or have other special needs. Public housing is directly managed by government.
The department also works in partnership with not-for-profit registered housing agencies to provide community housing.
If you’re on a low income, you can also apply for housing with these independent not-for-profit organisations.
Social housing is an overarching term that covers both public housing and community housing.
