General StormSafe advice from VicSES

  • Stay informed by monitoring local conditions and by being aware of the situation.
  • If your home has been flooded, ensure a licensed technician checks all electrical and gas appliances before you use them.
  • If your roof has been damaged by water, you should be vigilant and aware of wet insulation that could cause ceiling collapse.
  • To help guard against future storm damage, you should check that your gutters, downpipes and drains are in good order and not blocked.
  • You should not drive, walk or play in floodwaters, swollen creeks, rivers and streams.
  • Be aware that floodwaters often contain harmful contaminants – such as chemicals, faeces, and sharps.
  • If you are driving, be alert to debris across roadways.
