Music and culture are an important part of any thriving community.

Currently the department funds the following programs:

Be Heard! Community Radio Program

The Be Heard! Program and SYN Inc. youth-run media organisation provide opportunities for young people to develop skills and experience in radio broadcasting and media.

Rock Eisteddfod Challenge

Each year this national performing arts competition event invites young people to showcase their dance, drama and design skills. The 2011 Rock Eisteddfod Challenge saw around 300 Australian schools and 25 000 students participate.

FReeZA

The FReeZA program provides opportunities for young Victorians to enjoy drug and alcohol-free music and cultural events in their local area. Each year, more than 165,000 young people attend FReeZA events throughout the state.
