Carer Reimbursement for Out of Home Care
Foster and Kinship Carers (also known as Home Based carers) are provided with a financial reimbursement to contribute to the costs of caring for children and young people. Reimbursements are made fortnightly by the Department of Human Services.
Reimbursements are not classified as income and do not have to be declared as earnings to the Australian Taxation Office. The Department of Human Services’ Caregiver Reimbursement Helpdesk can be contacted on 1300 552 319 for reimbursement advice and assistance.
