Government and philanthropic grant makers both provide funding to not for profit community organisations. Both government and philanthropy recognise that value and efficiency can be added when they work collaboratively.

In 2012 the Office for the Community Sector (now called Community Sector Capacity Building) engaged with Philanthropy Australia and some of Victoria’s prominent philanthropic grant makers to develop a series of Guiding Principles for Collaboration between Government and Philanthropy. This tool has been used at a range of levels to support effective collaborative approaches. A series of case studies have also been developed on three way relationships between philanthropy, government and the not for profit community sectors and a report on the result of this work are all listed below.
