Support for children and young people after an emergency
Floods and other emergencies affect people both directly and indirectly. Children and young people are particularly vulnerable and can respond to traumatic events such as a natural disaster in a variety of ways.
Parents and carers play a significant role in children and young people’s lives and provide support, advice and guidance throughout the recovery process.
Resources are available from Department of Education and Early Childhood Development website provide practical support for parents, schools and early childhood communities to assist children and adolescents recovery from emergencies and natural disasters.

'Here for Each Other: Helping families after an emergency' is a publication created by Sesame Street to help families and carers help children recover from natural disasters. It provides parents and carers with strategies for helping children respond to their needs using familiar Sesame Street characters.
Originally developed in response to Hurricane Katrina, it has been revised for the Australian audience in collaboration with the Department for Education and Early Childhood Development.
