Personal Support: An Introduction
This course provides participants with the skills and understanding to better provide psychological first aid and support to individuals or communities who have been affected by an emergency.
The course aims to provide an understanding of how to:
- Identify and engage emergency affected people.
- Provide information and support to emergency effected people.
- Look after yourself during a stressful period.
Participants will have an understanding of:
- Community processes during an emergency.
- Realistic strategies to help people who have been psychologically affected by an emergency.
This course is the pre-requisite for Personal Support - Professional Development
Suggested participantsParticipants are invited from Non Government Organisations (NGOs) identified in the Municipal Emergency Management Plans to provide personal support services in an emergency. These include:
- Personal Support Team Leaders
- State and local government staff with a relief or recovery role.
