Course Profile

CBR Training for Health Services

The aim of the Victorian Health Services CBR Course is to develop key staff who will be involved in the development of pre-hospital, hospital and public health capability for managing the health aspects of a CBR incident.

The course uses a variety of teaching methods, including examination of previous incidents and syndicate discussion work, supported by a faculty of subject matter experts, to engage participants in this challenging area of learning.

At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Identify relevant state and national CBR arrangements, and counter terrorism plans
  • Identify the State Health Emergency Response Plan strategy for managing health aspects of mass casualty incidents
  • Appreciate the special characteristics of CBR agents and CBR incidents
  • Appreciate the health effects of CBR agents
  • Identify mitigation measures for exposure to CBR agents
  • Understand the principles of managing health problems associated with CBR incidents
  • Contribute to the development of pre-hospital and hospital procedures to manage a CBR incident
  • Identify opportunities for further professional development in the principles and practices of disaster medicine as they apply to a CBR incident.

There is an expectation that participants will contribute to training and development in CBR at their parent institution following completion of this course.
