Information about the services and supports in your local community
Supports and services for people with disabilities are available from a range of government and non-government organisations. For information about the variety of services and supports available to you in your local community visit Disability Online (External link).
Information, planning and advocacy may assist if you have questions about the types of supports available, how they may help you, and where and how you can get them.
Strengthening Individualised Planning and Support
Strengthening Individualised Planning and Support provides information about how the Department of Human Services is strengthening its focus on individually tailored and flexible ways to respond to people’s needs and how Individual Support Packages are changing from 1 July 2008.
Choosing the best types of supports
Individual Support Packages provide flexible funding that, after planning with you, can be used to suit your particular needs.
Living in my home provides information on supports for people who want to live as independently as possible in their own home. It includes information about the following Disability Services programs: Aids and Equipment, HomeFirst, Outreach Support and Therapy.
Being part of my community provides information on supports that may assist people to become more independent and encourage community participation. It includes information about the following Disability Services programs: Day Services, Futures for Young Adults and Recreation.
Specialist disability supports provides information on supports that assist people with a disability, their families, carers and support providers in matters relating to behaviour intervention or the criminal justice system. It includes information about the following Disability Services programs: Behaviour Intervention Services and Criminal Justice Services.
Accommodation includes information about the following Disability Services programs: Disability Housing Trust and Shared Support Accommodation.
Families and carers provides information on supports for families and carers of people with a disability. It includes information about the following Disability Services programs: Family Options, Flexible Support Packages and Respite.
December 2007 Disability Support Register
The Department of Human Services’ approach to supporting people with a disability focuses on individually tailored and flexible ways to respond to people’s needs and assist them to achieve their goals and aspirations. This approach is in line with the goals of the State Disability Plan.
The Disability Support Register (DSR) is the system used by the Department of Human Services to record the current need for on-going disability support. The DSR provides a clear and accurate picture of the support that is currently required, so that when resources become available, they can be allocated in a fair and efficient manner.
The number of people recorded on the DSR as at 31 December 2007 is shown in the following table.

Service Providers Registered under the Disability Act 2006
A list of all service providers registered as 'Disability Service Providers' under the Disability Act 2006 is available to use. Called the Register of Disability Service Providers, the listed agencies are funded by the Department of Human Services (DHS) to provide services for people with a disability and must comply with the requirements of the Disability Act 2006. Disability services provided directly by the DHS are not included on the register but must also be compliant with the requirements of the Act .
