Residential Treatment Facilities Implementation Guide

Release date: July 2007 by Disability Services Division.

The objective of the Residential Treatment Facilities (RTF) Implementation Guide is to guide the legislative compliance requirements under the Disability Act (2006), in particular, those provisions relevant to Part 8 of the Act - Compulsory Treatment:

  • Division 1 – Residential Treatment Facilities;
  • Division 2 – Provisions applying to Residential Treatment Orders
  • Division 3 – Provisions applying to Security Residents; and
  • Division 4 – provisions applying to Forensic Residents.

The provisions within the Act stipulate a statutory framework for the provision of compulsory treatment to people with an intellectual disability. They also provide an overarching policy framework for the operation and functioning of RTFs.
