Self-directed support
Disability Services is moving towards a more self-directed approach (previously known as the individualised planning and support approach), where people with a disability have more flexibility and control of the supports they choose.
Some self-directed initiatives include:
- Individual Support Packages and ways to manage the funding
- Direct Payments Project
- Futures for Young Adults program
- Building inclusive communities.
This ‘reorientation’ to self-directed approaches is part of the Victorian State Disability Plan 2002-2012.

Who to contact for further information
For people with a disability and their families:
The Disability Intake and Response Service is the key point of contact.
This service will connect you to your regional office and is available Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm on 1800 783 783 or TTY 1800 008 149.
