Reporting requirements for service providers

All department-managed and registered disability service providers are required to report annually on:

  • Outcomes of organisational quality improvement activities implemented in the 12 months prior to reporting
  • Self-assessment activities, including the participation of support users
  • Organisational quality improvement activities planned for the next 12 months.

Integrated Quality Management Approach

The annual report is known as the Integrated Quality Management Approach (IQMA) Organisational Quality Plan and Improvement Report. The IQMA report allows verification of high quality service provision, promotes continuous quality improvement, provides information on trends and identifies good practice to inform systemic quality improvement.

Phasing out of the Integrated Quality Management Approach

With the introduction of independent monitoring, the IQMA reporting process will be phased out over 2009-12. The independent monitoring mechanism will establish alternative quality verification and reporting processes, and is being phased in over the same period.

Service providers will continue to report each July via the IQMA activity report until they have participated in independent monitoring.

The  2008-09 IQMA Organisational Quality Plan and Improvement Report template (Word 335.5 kb) has been provided directly to disability service providers and is due to be submitted by 24 July 2009

The completed template can be emailed to qualityindisability@dhs.vic.gov.au or sent to your regional Partnerships and Services Adviser (PASA). Disability service providers are required to report through the IQMA process, unless specifically exempted. Exemptions from 2008-09 IQMA reporting apply to:

  • participants in the independent monitoring demonstration project (Barwon South Western Region), and
  • Aboriginal community controlled organisations.

These disability service providers will no longer be required to submit IQMA reports.

With transfer of the Advocacy Program from the department to the Department of Planning and Community Development, most service providers primarily funded for advocacy services are also no longer required to submit an IQMA report.

Integrated Quality Management Approach data reports

Information from the IQMA reports is compiled and analysed annually. This is published periodically to provide information to the disability service sector on statewide quality managment and improvement activities. Information on individual organisational quality improvement activities is also published for the purpose of sharing information and experience across the sector.
