Furthering Inclusive Learning and Development (FIELD)

The Victorian Government and the Department of Human Services recognise the strategic link between staff training and providing quality services. An important aspect of improving the quality of all disability services is the partnership between Disability Services and community service organisations (CSOs) to promote training opportunities and enhance the positive learning culture in the sector.

Disability In-Service Training Support Service (DISTSS) has changed its name

DISTSS is now called Furthering Inclusive Learning and Development (FIELD). FIELD coordinates in-service training for approximately 7,000 staff working at over 300 CSOs that make up the disability sector.

FIELD is an initiative funded by the Department of Human Services and auspiced by a group comprising the Council of Adult Education (CAE) and the peak disability organisation National Disability Services (NDS).

The service supports Victorian disability CSOs and their staff to access training and professional development opportunities. Organisations are assisted in developing an Agency Training Plan, which documents staff training needs and strategies to address those needs.

FIELD is supported by an external advisory committee, which has consumer, service provider and departmental representation. FIELD works in close partnership with DHS Workforce Development and Learning (WDL).

Both FIELD and WDL support the disability sector in implementing the Quality Framework for Disability Services and the continuous improvement of services for people with a disability.
