Disability Act 2006 Easy Read Information

From 1 July 2007, the Disability Act 2006 is the new law for people with a disability in Victoria.

What does the new law mean for me?

How does the new law help me to be part of the community?

It talks about the work of the Disability Advisory Council, the Victorian State Disability Plan 2002–2012 and Disability Action Plans.

Planning   Information sheet 4: Planning for people with a disability (PDF 612KB) talks about helping you to think and plan for the things you want to do in your life. It also talks about who can help you with planning, what support plans are, when you need a support plan and what information needs to be in your support plan.

What does the new law say about the rights of people who live in a residential service?

Your rights

 

  Information sheet 5: About your rights in residential services (PDF 497KB) talks about the rights of people who live in a disability residential service, for example, a community residential unit.

 

 

 

The new law says that you must also get a  Residential Statement (PDF 511.6 kb) when you move into your house and that the information in the residential statement be easy to understand.

 Information sheet 8: Provision of information (PDF 346KB) talks about information you get from your disability service provider. The new law says that information you get must be in a way you understand like written information with easy to understand words.
