Definition of direct payments
Direct payments is the transfer of an agreed amount of funding directly to a person with a disability, a family member or carer. The person with a disability is then able to manage the selection and purchasing of supports in line with an agreed plan. Direct payments gives people with a disability flexibility and control over their supports and services.
It will be an option in the future for people with a disability to choose to administer their funding. The other options available are funding to a financial intermediary or to a service provider or a combination of options.
