Regional Population Profiles

To support the implementation of the Disability Services Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (CALD) Strategy, CALD Regional Population Profiles have been developed for each Department of Human Services (DHS) region, to assist Disability Services funded support providers to understand the diversity of their local communities.

The Profiles provide details about the CALD population in each local government area (LGA) within each DHS Region using key CALD variables, such as Country of Birth COBand Language Other than English LOTEspoken at home. The Profiles present the data using the age group (0-64 years inclusive) most relevant to Disability Services.

The Profiles are linked to the Disability Services Multicultural Resource Directories.

Specific features of the CALD Population Profiles for each region include:

  • Number of people born overseas, including those born in non-English speaking countries
  • Most common countries of birth, particularly non-English speaking countries
  • Number of people who speak a language other than English at home
  • Major language groups and their size per local government areas
  • Number of people with low English language proficiency
  • Newly arrived communities.
