Cultural and Linguistic Diversity
The following resources relate to cultural diversity:
- Cross cultural training – accredited courses to increase the understanding and responsiveness of government and community service organisations in meeting the cultural and language needs of people with a disability, their family and carers. Action on Disability within Ethnic Communities (ADEC) has an annual calendar of training that can be accessed on ADEC (External link).
- DHS Cultural Diversity Guide – assists funded agencies identify a range of available strategies to improve responsiveness and levers to effect cultural change
- DHS Language Services Policy – assists government agencies and community service organisations to identify when and how they should provide access to interpreting (includes sign language) and translating services
- Disability Online Service Directory – search for services that speak your language
Disability Services Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (CALD) Strategy (PDF, 557KB) – assists in the planning and delivery of culturally appropriate supports to people with a disability, their family and carers- Health Translations Directory (External link) – online access to health information in languages other than English
- Multicultural Resource Directories – provides demographic profiles of the cultural diversity of Victoria’s local government areas as well as contacts of multicultural organisations and services in your local area
- Reporting on Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (CALD) – government and funded non government disability support providers report on strategies, information provision and organisational planning processes aimed at responding to the cultural and linguistic needs of people with a disability.
