A function of the Senior Practitioner is to undertake research into restrictive intervention and compulsory treatment, and provide information on practice improvement to disability service providers.

A view from people with disabilities and family carers
This report provides discussion points and recommendations that promote and encourage policy makers, managers, support staff, family carers, people with disabilities, other organisations and advocates, to think about what can promote and lead to positive supports along a rights based approach.

Independent psychiatric review of former Kew Residential Services residents
The Centre for Developmental Disability Health Victoria (CDDHV) conducted independent psychiatric reviews of former residents of Kew Residential Services (KRS) between 27 and 30 November 2008, at the request of the Senior Practitioner. The report outlines the findings and recommendations of the independent reviews.

Physical Restraint
As part of the Senior's Practitioner's role in reviewing and monitoring the use of restraint and seclusion in disability services, the Office of the Senior Practitioner commissioned a research report from Dr Keith McVilly of RMIT University.
