This payment assists a surviving partner, carer or parent of a young child to adjust to the financial circumstances of the death of a:
- Pensioner
- Long-term Centrelink recipient (i.e. minimum of 12 months) of Youth Allowance, Newstart Allowance, Sickness Allowance, Partner Allowance, Parenting Payment Special Benefit or Mature Age Allowance
- Child of a Family Tax Benefit recipient, or
- Care recipient.
