Life support machine

For the Life Support electricity concession, eligible machines are:

  • oxygen concentrators,
  • intermittent peritoneal dialysis machines and
  • haemodialysis machines.

Haemodialysis machines are also eligible for the Life Support water concession.

Eligibility

You must hold at least one of the following concession cards:

    Pensioner Concession Card; Health Care Card; DVA Gold Card

Holders of a Health Care Card for Child Disability and Foster Care issued in the name of the child are not eligible.

How to apply

Application forms are available from the hospital supplying the life support machine, the electricity retailer or by contacting the Concessions Information Line.

  • I have a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, do I qualify for the Life Support concession?
    No. If you are a holder of Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, a Victorian Seniors Card, a Child Disability and Foster Care Health Care Card or Medicare Card you are not eligible to apply.
  • When could I complete this form?

    If you or someone in your household uses a life support machine, you can complete this form and send it to your electricity and/or water company. This will inform the company of the presence of the machine. You may also be eligible to apply for the life support concession on your electricity and/or water accounts.

  • What machines are eligible for a concession?

    Eligible machines are those that consume at least 1,880 kilowatt hours of electricity per annum. For electricity concessions eligible machines are only oxygen concentrator and an intermittent peritoneal dialysis machine. A machine which is eligible for both the electricity and the water concession is the haemodialysis machine.

  • How much will I receive off my bills?

    The amount of the concession is equal to the cost of 1,880 kilowatt hours of electricity usage per annum, divided between your four quarterly bills. If you use a haemodialysis machine, you can also receive a concession off your water bills, equal to the cost of 168 kilolitres of water per annum, divided between your four quarterly bills.

  • Where should I send my form once it is complete?

    Please send your form to your electricity retailer or water agency.
