Role and Function

The Performance Reporting and Analysis Unit provides data analyses and information reporting services to the department and external agencies relating to service development, planning and monitoring, health research, and hospital funding from several Victorian hospital unit record data collections including:

• Victorian Admitted Episode Dataset (VAED)
  
• Victorian Emergency Minimum Dataset (VEMD)
  
• Elective Surgery Information System (ESIS)
  
• Mental Health (CMI/ODS) and
  
• aggregate patient and finance data through the Agency Information Management System (AIMS).

This includes providing expert advice regarding availability and appropriate application of Victorian health information; development of ad hoc and standard reports and data extracts to meet business information needs; ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement of DHS information/resource systems; and production of regular publications to support core business processes.

Other responsibilities include:

• Regular provision of data to external agencies including:
  
  • Commonwealth Department of Health and Family Services as required under the Australian Health Care Agreement
  • Australian Institute of Health and Welfare as required under the National Health Information Agreement
    
• Deriving information for interstate cross-border patient flows which impact on funding arrangements
  
• Supporting the negotiation of funding agreements with external agencies
