Role & Function

The Information Systems & Solutions Unit is responsible for the provision of services relative to health (hospital) data for Departmental uses associated with statutory reporting requirements, service monitoring and performance management. This includes:

• Consultancy services and facilitation for management and users in the understanding and use of data and information technology in achieving effective outcomes
• The management of the Division’s key datasets including database management and development of associated systems
• Publication of data in a meaningful form for reporting use by interested parties and/or stakeholders through the VHIRS data warehouse
• Provision of data acquisition mechanisms (including AIMS) and miscellaneous other small I.T. related developments and projects.

Victorian Health Information Reporting System (VHIRS)

The VHIRS data warehouse provides the Department with a single repository of hospital related data from which reports and information for analysis can be drawn.

Agency Information Management System (AIMS)

The Agency Information Management System (AIMS) provides data collection services for hospital agencies to provide the required information to the Department.

HealthCollect

The HealthCollect facility provides an Internet-based service for data collection (AIMS) and includes a Secure Data Exchange (SDE) for the uploading and downloading of data between the hospitals and the Department. The HealthCollect Redevelopment Project has been established to migrate these services into the corporate zone.
