6.6 Clinical Risk Management


The purpose of this program is to develop and evaluate new models of clinical risk management in hospitals, with the objective of identifying improved systems of delivery of acute care which minimise the risk of occurrence of clinical incidents which may otherwise result in adverse events and, through early intervention, minimise harm when they do occur. An important outcome of the program will be the development of measurable performance indicators for the management of clinical risk in the acute care setting.

The Minister for Health announced that $3 million would be allocated over three years to fund a series of clinical risk management pilot projects. Five projects directly involving over 20 public hospitals have been selected. The lead agencies responsible for the projects are the:
