6.5 Infection Control

The Infection Control Taskforce was established in 1996-97 to advise the Department on a range of issues in relation to infection control practice and policies in Victorian public hospitals. It is currently overseeing an infection control project which is in three parts:

The stocktake will be completed in 1997-98 with the release of a report identifying the status of infection control, cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation policies, procedures and resources in Victorian public acute hospitals. It will also identify improvements needed to minimise hospital acquired infections and any areas requiring urgent attention. It is expected this report will be circulated to the field before December 1997.

The Department will develop a broadly based strategy to implement accepted recommendations, with funding allocated in 1997-98.
