6.4 Koori Health Services
The Division is liaising with Aboriginal Affairs and the Public Health Division to ensure that hospitals maintain responsive and accessible service systems by encouraging:
- Cultural awareness training for admissions staff and other relevant providers.
- Opportunities for networking to improve referrals and service co-ordination with Aboriginal specific and other community based service providers.
- Liaision with Koori Health Liaison Officers in designated hospitals and DHS Regional Offices for effective assessment, care planning and discharge to home or community services.
- Development of prevention and education programs for priority public health issues such as diabetes and birthing services.
- Improved coding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background on VIMD.
Acute Health Services in conjunction with Aboriginal Affairs and the Public Health Division will continue to monitor access to services by people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds and will continue to formulate strategies for service improvement.
