In addition to the Enhancement Programs for Elective Surgery and Emergency Services, there are a wide range of developments designed to improve quality in Victorian public hospitals.The Acute Health Quality Committee was established in November 1996, under the Chairmanship of Professor Stephen Duckett, to advise the Minister and the Department in matters concerned with the review and development of quality policy. The prime focus of this Committee is to improve the quality of service delivery in the Victorian acute health system. In 1997-98 this Committee will :
The Committee's deliberations during 1997 have commenced with a review of accreditation policy and discussion on the development of performance indicators. Other matters include statutory immunity, consumer information and functional health status measurement. In addition the Committee will receive reports from current projects including Patient Satisfaction Stage 3; the infection control and risk management projects; and will advise on subsequent activities to follow on from these activities.
- Recommend strategies that achieve the integration of quality as a significant element in health service delivery.
- Encourage a focus on quality of service delivery particularly from the perspective of consumers.
