OUTER EAST METROPOLITAN HEALTH SERVICES REVIEW

The Victorian Government has commissioned a comprehensive review of the health service requirements for Melbourne's outer east to ensure residents have access to high quality health services.

The focus of the review is on:

  1. secondary and tertiary level acute services, including ambulatory and domiciliary services as appropriate (eg Hospital in the Home);
  2. sub-acute services including aged care, rehabilitation services and palliative care; and
  3. mental health services.

A consultant team, MA International, has been engaged to undertake the review. The review team is working under the guidance of a Steering Committee, comprising representatives from outer eastern hospitals, Eastern Health, community health, local government and the Department of Human Services. The Steering Committee is now finalising its report to the Minister for Health.

As part of the review, the consultant team have completed an extensive consultation phase which included:

  1. Community information meetings in the local government areas of Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges
  2. An Information paper to encourage community participation and feedback
  3. A call for written submissions from the community
  4. Clinical consultations with health service providers, managers and clinicians
  5. Consultation with consumer and carer groups
  6. A stakeholder workshop comprising 70 participants
  7. A second round of community meetings in the local government areas of Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges.

Based on the results of the consultation phase, the consultant team is currently preparing a draft Strategic Services Plan for health services in the Outer East.

Further information on the progress of the review will be posted on this site.
