Sandhurst Residential Services

The Victorian Government is providing $7.9 million to build five new, community residential units to replace the institutionalised-style of accommodation at Sandhurst Residential Services.

Sandhurst provides congregate care accommodation and day services for adults who have an intellectual disability. There are currently 26 people with a disability living at Sandhurst.

Construction of the new buildings is nearing completion and all residents of Sandhurst will transition to their new homes by mid-2016.

The new homes are tailored to the needs of residents based on in-depth planning with residents, advocates, staff and families that has already taken place.

International and local research and experience consistently suggests that smaller, more individualised care arrangements lead to an improved quality of life for people with a disability.
