North & West Metropolitan Region
With a catchment of around 1.68 million people, the North and West Metropolitan Region is the most heavily populated of the department’s eight service delivery regions.
Its community comprises 31% of Victoria’s population, is culturally diverse and includes 24% of Victoria’s Aboriginal people.
Melbourne CBD, inner, middle and outer urban areas - including four high-growth areas - lie within its boundaries. So do 11 of Melbourne’s 14 most disadvantaged municipalities.
The Region collaborates closely with more than 200 partner organisations to provide housing and human services. Its own infrastructure includes:
- three main administrative offices - in Fitzroy, Preston and Footscray
- ten Housing Offices - in its main Preston and Footscray offices and in Ascot Vale, Broadmeadows, Carlton, Collingwood, Fitzroy, Kensington, North Melbourne, Richmond and Sunshine
- 177 group homes for people with a disability
- two state-wide facilities; the Disability Forensic Assessment and Treatment Service, and Secure Welfare Service facilities for young people
- around 26,600 public housing properties which include 80% of the state’s high-rise/medium density public housing stock.
