Young people get the chance to Be Heard!

Victorian rural and regional community radio stations will receive $200,000 over four years as part of the Victorian Government’s Be Heard! program.
This funding will provide training and mentoring for young people in rural and regional areas enabling them to produce live-to-air shows.
The Be Heard! program provides volunteering opportunities for young people to increase their skills and provide a pathway for those seeking a career in radio broadcasting.
An additional $200,000 will be provided over four years to support the successful youth-led Student Youth Network (SYN) radio station (based in Melbourne). Student Youth Network aims to train the next generation of radio, TV and online media creators, presenters and producers.
Student Youth Network General Manager, Tahlia Azaria said the funding would provide continued support for SYN’s training and mentoring programs, which are accessed by over 1,000 young people each year.
‘This funding from the Victorian Government is crucial to the continued success of SYN and re-emphasises our position as a key provider of media training for young people', Ms Azaria said.
