Working together to reduce homelessness: $25 million for Innovation Action Projects
Australia’s leading homelessness experts gathered in Melbourne for the 2nd Annual Integrating Services to Reduce Homelessness Conference in November.
Key speakers from government and the community sector presented a series of case studies to share their strategies to reduce homelessness and increase sustainable pathways out of homelessness.
In her opening address Minister for Housing Wendy Lovell spoke about the Victorian Government’s recently launched $76.7 million Homelessness Action Plan 2011 - 2015 to tackle homelessness.
‘Our approach aims to reduce the risk of people being trapped in a cycle of homelessness from one generation to the next’, Minister Lovell said.
Minister Lovell said the need for integrated services to better meet client needs was the plan’s key premise.
‘One of the foundations of the plan is an allocation of $25 million for Innovation Action Projects in which service providers will work in partnership with each other’, Minister Lovell said.
The department is currently seeking submissions for Stage 1 Innovation Action Projects against funding of $15 million.
Submissions for Innovative Action Projects will need to demonstrate integrated service delivery across sectors and provide new approaches to preventing homelessness.
Submissions demonstrating collaboration between specialist and mainstream service providers are especially encouraged.
