Starting a floristry business to provide meaningful work for people with a disability, building disability support equipment to help a young athlete pursue their Paralympic dreams, and pioneering disability awareness training at Monash University Gippsland, are just some of the achievements recognised at the 2012 Victorian Disability Sector Awards.

Eleven award recipients and more than 90 nominees were recognised at an awards ceremony at Zinc at Federation Square on Thursday 26 April 2012.

Hosted by the Director of the Office for Disability, Christine Mathieson, the awards were presented by Community Services Minister, Mary Wooldridge.

This year’s prestigious lifetime achievement award was presented to Bill Lawler from Moe South, a prominent disability advocate who is highly respected for his commitment and ability to lead by example.

The Victorian Disability Sector Awards acknowledge the commitment of individuals and organisations that provide services and support to people with a disability.

The Awards are a joint initiative between National Disability Services (Victoria), Disability Professionals Victoria, and the Department of Human Services.

Congratulations to all nominees and award winners.
