New disability plan for a more inclusive Victoria

15 April 2015

The Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing Martin Foley MP has announced development of the Victorian State Disability Plan 2017-2020.

The new plan will be developed in partnership with people with a disability, their families and carers, and the broader disability sector, to ensure it reflects what is needed to increase the economic and social participation of people with a disability in the community.

The plan will provide a way forward for how best to respond to future challenges, including the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

The plan will also be informed by Parliamentary and Ombudsman inquiries into abuse in disability care, as well as the recent Parliamentary Inquiry into Social Inclusion and Victorians with Disability.

The government will soon begin consultation to ensure the new plan reflects the needs of people with a disability, their families and carers. More information on the consultation process will be available as the plan is the developed.

The current Victorian state disability plan will remain in place during 2015 and 2016.
