Residents at Markham Avenue estate in Ashburton will be consulted over plans to demolish existing rundown 1950s-era buildings and replace them with brand new housing.

Plans to completely redevelop the site and increase social housing were announced by the Victorian Government as part of Housing Week 2015.

Existing buildings will be demolished by the end of this year.

The Department of Health and Human Services and Places Victoria are collaborating on options, and will pursue a range of development models as part of the scoping works.
The local community, the City of Boroondara and other stakeholders will be consulted as plans progress.

The theme of Housing Week this year is Growing Together.

Housing Week is a time to celebrate the contribution the social housing community has made to Victoria. It is also the time to start talking about how to grow and improve social housing.
