The stage is set for the development of 320 new homes in Norlane, Geelong following an announcement from Minister for Housing, Wendy Lovell last month.

Over the next four years, 160 new private and 160 new public homes will be built on vacant blocks, breathing new life into Norlane.

The homes will be a mix of low density, ranging from two to five bedrooms. Over ten new homes are currently under construction and the first few homes have already been finished in time for families to move in before Christmas.

The New Norlane development project will see more park benches, improved footpaths, hundreds of new trees planted and new local shops and community facilities. The old three-story public housing units will be demolished.

‘This project is one of a number of initiatives aimed at making Norlane a great neighbourhood’, Ms Lovell said.

The Victorian Government will also establish one of the first two new Work and Learning Centres in North Geelong to support the economic participation of local residents in the area. It will open in the first half of 2012.

The $80 million development project will include a display village featuring some of the best value new homes in Geelong.

The Department of Human Services will oversee the project. The homes will be built by local builders and suppliers, creating new jobs and investment in the Geelong region.
