Stories from the South - Southern Metropolitan Region
Disability Services in Southern Metropolitan Region (SMR) has, over the past few months, undertaken a project that involved talking with people about their lives and the results of these conversations have culminated in the publication of Stories from the South.
Stories are a wonderful way to communicate - they can make us laugh, some can move us to tears, others give us a chance to reflect on how we see the world and how we do things. They can teach us more about how we should provide support to people than just about anything else.
Each of the stories is about an individual with a disability in the SMR, who has thought about their future and achieved things that may once have been considered impossible.
Stories have been a strong and time honoured message medium, but when they are real stories about real people they are even more compelling and powerful. SMR hopes that people will use these to think differently in their endeavours to assist people with a disability to achieve their own positive and inspiring stories.
