Welcome to Adoption and Permanent Care Update - December 2011
There are three interrelated interviews to share with you in this edition. They are the personal journeys shared with us by Margaret, a mother who relinquished her child for adoption, Doug and Heather who adopted her child, and Kate, one of the Adoption Permanent Care workers involved in the introduction of the families to each other.
We feel very privileged that everyone wanted to share these stories with us. We were particularly mindful of not wanting to intrude on Margaret’s grief but she wanted her story to be told so that people have a better understanding of that it is like for a parent to relinquish their child for adoption and how important ongoing contact can be. Doug and Heather were also willing to share with us their perspective as adoptive parents.
And Kate, who was a new worker with the program at the time, tells us what it was like for her seeing two families merging their lives together. Everyone’s experiences in adoption are different but what shines through from all these stories are the generosity and goodwill of Margaret, Doug and Heather, and most of all, their shared love of Braydon.
