Home visits

Home visits and inspections of public housing properties are initially undertaken to assist new tenants in their transition to public housing. This contact with a new tenant can include any tenancy or maintenance issues the tenant my have. It is also to ensure the property is being used as undertaken by the tenant in their rental agreement with the Department.

Staff will complete an initial home visit within ten weeks of a new tenancy commencing. Throughout the tenancy, staff will arrange home visits and inspections at a minimum of one every three years. This is to ensure the tenancy and the property is being kept in a reasonable condition and any required maintenance is identified. Tenants can discuss any tenancy, rental or maintenance issue they have at any time with their local office.

Tenants will receive prior notification of a home visit. These visits are scheduled at an agreed date and time, prior to the home visit.
